Our outsourced month-end close services give you a finished set of books every month: every account reconciled, adjustments posted and the results reviewed, with statements delivered by the 7th to 10th business day. We run the close in your accounting system on a fixed calendar, for a fixed monthly fee.

Bookkeeping keeps transactions current. A close goes further. It ties every balance to support, records what was earned or owed but not yet paid, and checks the results before anyone relies on them. It is the step many growing companies skip, and the reason their numbers drift from month to month.

What is included in our month-end close?

  • Bank, credit card, loan and merchant account reconciliations
  • Stripe, Shopify, Amazon and PayPal payouts tied back to sales, fees, refunds and reserves
  • Accruals for costs incurred but not yet billed, and prepaid expenses spread over the months they cover
  • Deferred revenue and revenue recognition schedules where your contracts call for them
  • Payroll and benefits reconciled to your payroll provider
  • Fixed assets and depreciation, and inventory and cost of goods sold where relevant
  • A balance sheet review: every account tied to a schedule, statement or report
  • Monthly financial statements with short notes on anything that moved

How does the close work each month?

  1. Documents. In the first days of the month you send what we can’t pull ourselves, such as new contracts, bills not yet entered and payroll changes. We agree the list at onboarding so it is the same every month.
  2. Reconciliations. Our team reconciles every bank, card, loan and processor account and clears old unmatched items.
  3. Adjustments. We post accruals, prepaids, deferred revenue, depreciation and payroll entries.
  4. Controller review. Your controller reviews the balance sheet, compares the results with last month and with budget, and follows up on anything unusual before the statements go out.
  5. Reporting. You receive the statements by the 7th to 10th business day, with notes on what changed, and we can walk you through them on a call.

When are the books closed?

We deliver statements by the 7th to 10th business day of the following month, once bank statements and your documents are in. Timing can slip when documents arrive late or an account needs cleanup first. If that is going to happen, we tell you before the deadline, not after it.

Who needs an outsourced month-end close?

  • Companies that report to investors, a board or a lender every month
  • Founders who want accrual-basis numbers, with revenue in the month it is earned and costs in the month they are incurred
  • SaaS companies with annual contracts and deferred revenue
  • Ecommerce brands whose payouts never match their sales
  • Businesses whose books are current but never reviewed

If you only need transactions categorized and a monthly profit and loss, our monthly bookkeeping plans are a better fit and cost less.

Which accounting systems do you close in?

QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct and AI-native platforms such as Rillet and Digits. We follow the same close checklist in each system and adapt the controls to how it works.

How long does it take to get started?

Up to one month. We review your current books, agree the close calendar and the document list, set up access and run the first close with you. If earlier months need work first, we quote a fixed-fee cleanup and catch-up before the monthly close begins.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a month-end close take?

We deliver statements by the 7th to 10th business day after month-end. Closing faster than that mostly depends on how quickly bank statements, bills and payroll reports arrive, so we agree a document deadline with you at onboarding.

Do I need accrual accounting for a month-end close?

Usually, yes. An accrual-basis close records revenue when it is earned and costs when they are incurred, which is what investors, lenders and GAAP expect. Simple businesses that only need cash-basis reports are better served by our bookkeeping plans.

Can you close the books if we are behind?

Yes, after a catch-up. We first bring the books current with a fixed-fee cleanup, then start the monthly close from the next month.

Can our in-house bookkeeper keep doing the day-to-day work?

Yes. Your bookkeeper can keep entering transactions while we run the reconciliations, adjustments and review. Some clients start that way and hand us the bookkeeping later.

Is a month-end close the same as an audit?

No. A close is management accounting: reconciliations, adjustments and a review so the numbers are complete and consistent. It is not an audit or review engagement and carries no assurance opinion. If you have an auditor, we prepare the schedules they ask for.

Do you prepare tax returns?

No. A clean monthly close makes year-end faster for your tax CPA, who prepares the returns. We hand them a complete year-end package.
