The best crypto accounting software for a business that keeps its books in QuickBooks Online or Xero is a crypto subledger: a tool that pulls every wallet and exchange transaction, tracks cost basis lot by lot, and posts clean summary entries to your general ledger. For smaller companies that want published pricing, Breezing is the easiest place to start. For venture-backed startups and multi-entity groups, Bitwave and Cryptio are the more complete platforms. Cryptoworth and Ledgible sit in between, with quote-based pricing and support for both ledgers. Below we compare all five on pricing, integrations, security reports and what each one means for your month-end close.
Key takeaways
- QuickBooks Online and Xero cannot track crypto cost basis or fair value on their own, so a subledger does that work and syncs entries to your books.
- Breezing is the only one of the five that publishes prices, starting at $29 a month (billed yearly) for 600 transactions.
- Bitwave, Cryptio, Cryptoworth and Ledgible all quote pricing and all list both QuickBooks and Xero integrations; Bitwave and Cryptio go furthest into NetSuite and larger ERPs.
- Under FASB ASU 2023-08, in-scope crypto assets are measured at fair value through net income for fiscal years beginning after December 15, 2024, so your tool needs reliable period-end pricing.
- The category is consolidating: Fireblocks announced it was buying crypto accounting platform TRES Finance on January 7, 2026.
What is the best crypto accounting software for businesses in 2026?
Our short verdict, based on each provider’s own pages:
- Best for small businesses and accounting firms on a budget: Breezing, because pricing is published, every plan includes unlimited wallets and users, and it posts to Xero and QuickBooks Online.
- Best for venture-backed startups that will grow into an audit: Bitwave, an official QuickBooks App Marketplace partner that also integrates with Xero, NetSuite and Sage Intacct and advertises SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2 reports.
- Best for wide chain and exchange coverage and many ERPs: Cryptio, which lists native QuickBooks, Xero and NetSuite connections and more than 100 live blockchains on its integrations page.
- Worth a look if you want a trial before talking price: Cryptoworth and Ledgible, both of which support QuickBooks and Xero and offer a way to test your data first.

How do the top crypto subledgers compare?
Figures and features below were checked on each provider’s own website on October 14, 2026. None of these tools holds your money; they are software that reads wallet and exchange data, so FDIC insurance does not apply. The relevant safeguard is the provider’s independent security audit (SOC report), which you should request directly.
| Tool | Pricing | QuickBooks Online and Xero | Other ledgers | Security reports (provider’s claim) | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Breezing | Published: $29/mo (600 transactions) to $2,917/mo (1.5 million), billed yearly; custom above that | Both | Bexio and others listed | SOC 2 badge | Small businesses, accounting firms, Xero users |
| Bitwave | Quote only (Startups, Enterprises and Institutions plans) | Both; QuickBooks App Marketplace partner | NetSuite, Sage Intacct | SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2 | Funded startups, multi-entity groups, institutions |
| Cryptio | Quote after a consultation | Both, native | NetSuite native; SAP, Sage, Workday, Oracle Fusion, Dynamics 365 listed | SOC badge shown | Companies with many chains, exchanges or ERPs |
| Cryptoworth | Quote; Sandbox plan to test data (single entity, 5 connections, 2,000 transaction lines) | Both on the Core Accounting plan | NetSuite and enterprise ERPs on Enterprise plan | SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 | Growing companies that want to test before buying |
| Ledgible | Accounting plans quoted; 30-day free trial | Both | NetSuite | Ask the provider | Businesses that also want a link to tax software and tax pros |
Why can’t QuickBooks Online or Xero handle crypto on their own?
Your general ledger is built to record dollars. Crypto needs three things it does not do natively: a record of every token lot with its cost basis, a price for every asset at every period end, and the volume to process thousands of on-chain transactions, fees and internal transfers. A subledger handles that detail and sends your ledger either summarized journal entries or transaction-level entries, depending on the tool and settings.
The accounting rules raised the stakes. FASB ASU 2023-08 requires in-scope crypto assets, such as bitcoin and ether held by the company, to be measured at fair value, with gains and losses “included in net income,” for all entities for fiscal years beginning after December 15, 2024. For a calendar-year company, that means 2025 and 2026 statements. The old cost-less-impairment approach is gone for in-scope assets, so a tool that cannot produce an auditable period-end fair value report is a poor fit.
Tax reporting is changing too. The IRS broker reporting rules require brokers to report gross proceeds on Form 1099-DA for transactions on or after January 1, 2025, and basis on certain transactions on or after January 1, 2026. Your subledger’s cost basis records are what your tax CPA will compare those forms against.
What does a crypto subledger mean for your books and month-end close?
The software decision matters less than how it fits your close. These are the points we look at when we set one up for a client:
- Sync quality. Decide whether the subledger posts one summary journal entry per wallet per month or every transaction. Summary entries keep QuickBooks and Xero fast and readable; detail stays in the subledger for the auditor.
- Chart of accounts mapping. Map each wallet to its own balance sheet account, and map gas fees, staking rewards, realized gains and unrealized fair value changes to separate P&L accounts.
- Internal transfers. Moves between your own wallets and exchanges are the most common source of phantom gains. Each tool has a way to match them; make sure someone reviews unmatched items before the close.
- Invoices and bills paid in crypto. Bitwave’s Xero app syncs invoices both ways, and Breezing says it closes crypto-paid invoices without a clearing account. Either way, receivables and payables should clear to zero, not sit in suspense.
- Reconciliation. Tie each wallet’s token balance in the subledger to the blockchain or exchange statement, then tie the subledger’s dollar balance to the general ledger. Lock the period in both systems afterward.
- Period-end pricing. Agree on one pricing source and cut-off time and use it every month, so fair value changes are consistent and explainable.
Building these steps into a written close checklist is the kind of work an outsourced controller owns. If crypto activity has already landed in QuickBooks as a pile of uncategorized deposits, start with a QuickBooks cleanup before connecting a subledger, or the opening balances will be wrong from day one.
When should you choose each crypto accounting tool?
Choose Breezing if
You are a small business or a bookkeeping firm with modest volume, you want to know the price before you start, and your books are in Xero or QuickBooks Online. Its published tiers run from 600 transactions on the Basic plan up to 1.5 million on Scale, all with unlimited wallets and users. It does not list NetSuite, so plan a migration if you expect to move ERPs.
Choose Bitwave if
You are a funded company expecting a financial statement audit, you may add subsidiaries, or you need 1099-DA support. Bitwave advertises fair value and impairment reporting, multi-book accounting treatments, and SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2 reports. Subsidiary support starts on its Enterprises plan, and advanced 1099-DA reporting is on its Institutions plan.
Choose Cryptio if
You touch many chains and exchanges, or your parent company runs SAP, Workday or another large ERP while a subsidiary uses QuickBooks or Xero. Cryptio sells reconciliation, accounting and audit modules and prices after mapping your flow of funds on a call.
Choose Cryptoworth or Ledgible if
You want to load real data before committing. Cryptoworth’s Sandbox plan lets a single entity test up to 2,000 transaction lines, and its Core Accounting plan covers QuickBooks and Xero. Ledgible offers a 30-day free trial of its Crypto Accounting product and also runs a consumer tax app and a tax professional portal, which can help if owners hold crypto personally.
How did we compare these tools?
We chose subledgers that list integrations with both QuickBooks Online and Xero, the two ledgers we work in every day. Every price, plan and feature above comes from the provider’s own website, Xero App Store listing or help center, checked on October 14, 2026: Breezing pricing, Bitwave pricing and QuickBooks page, Bitwave on the Xero App Store, Cryptio integrations, Cryptoworth pricing and Ledgible’s product overview. Security report claims are as stated by each provider; ask for the actual report before you sign. We did not rank tools on hands-on testing, user reviews or customer counts, and we have no affiliate relationship with any of them. Pricing in this market changes often, so confirm the current quote.
One more market note: Fireblocks, a digital asset custody and wallet platform, announced on January 7, 2026 that it was acquiring TRES Finance, another crypto accounting platform, as reported by The Block. Expect more consolidation, and keep an export of your lot history in case your vendor changes hands.
Frequently asked questions
Can I track bitcoin in QuickBooks Online without a subledger?
For a handful of transactions a year, you can record bitcoin manually in a dedicated asset account and keep a spreadsheet of lots. Once you have regular activity, fair value remeasurement under ASU 2023-08 and lot-level cost basis make a spreadsheet hard to audit, which is when a subledger pays for itself.
Do I need fair value accounting for crypto in 2026?
If you prepare GAAP financial statements and hold crypto assets that meet the ASU 2023-08 scope criteria, yes: the standard is effective for fiscal years beginning after December 15, 2024. Many stablecoins are outside the scope because they give holders a claim on underlying assets, so talk to your accountant about each token you hold.
Which crypto accounting software works with Xero?
All five tools in this comparison list a Xero integration: Breezing, Bitwave, Cryptio, Cryptoworth and Ledgible. Bitwave’s Xero App Store listing says it brings in your chart of accounts, contacts, invoices and bills and pushes bank transactions back to Xero.
